So You Need a New Cycling Bicycle?

Some folks think there is nothing easier than picking a cycling bicycle. They have it in their minds that the only thing you need to do is choose the bike that looks the best and is a comfortable physical fit. This is wrong, the fact is there are more things to consider these days than there was a few years ago. With cycling becoming more popular in almost every area of life (transportation, lifestyle, sports, hobbies) there are more bicycles than ever to choose from. Some people are choosing to cycle as a means of transportation on a regular basis. Some people have decided to take up cycling as a hobby. If you want to know those important things to look out for when selecting a bike, read the following.

One thing you can consider when choosing a bike is whether or not your feet can rest flat on the floor while you are sitting so you can stop yourself. There are some people that say this isn't the best way to choose, though. These people explain that the best way to pick a bike is to ensure there is a few inches between the ground and your feet, and you will be provided with a much more comfortable ride. If your feet are sitting flat on the ground while your butt is on the seat, this usually means that the seat is too close to the crossbar and will need to be adjusted for comfort. Also, if you find that your knees are bent when sitting on the bike, your knees are going to come up too high when you are pedaling your bike.

If you want to ride a road bike, you will need to subtract about nine inches from your inseam measurement. This is to account for the size of tires you will use on a road bike. City riding is done my company with thin tires, designed to work perfectly with the smooth concrete roads and sidewalks you find in a city. You will want to subtract 12" for a mountain bike. The tires on a mountain bike are not the same as a road bike. Mountain bike tires will be thick and designed for mountainous terrain. You can of course use a mountain bike for road cycling but this isn't supposed to be their primary use.

If you are buying a cycling bicycle for your children, you have an entirely different set of criteria to think about. You will want to choose a bicycle that is sturdy with wide tires and easy to use brakes (most children’s brakes operate by moving the pedals backwards). You will definitely have to consider how the bike looks when shopping for a child and you will want to find a well priced bike because children grow so fast.

How well you fit physically with your bike is what is most important. This is the most important thing to consider when looking into using a bike to get around. You want to feel comfortable and safe as you travel from one point to another.
